Continuing Megan's Legacy of Giving

Megan’s Fund is a grassroots nonprofit based out of Greenwood, Indiana. It was founded in 2006 to honor the memory and compassion of Megan Elizabeth Williams, a 17-year-old Center Grove High School student whose dream was to help children experience the joy of Christmas.

Today, Megan's Fund continues to spread Megan's compassion by providing Christmas gifts to underserved children and their families across all of central Indiana.

Megan's Story

Megan Elizabeth Williams had a smile that could brighten any room and a heart that never stopped giving. At just 17, she dreamed of changing the world — not someday, but right then. That December in 2005, Megan set out to spend her entire paycheck buying Christmas presents for children who might otherwise go without. She wanted to help families “have the best Christmas ever.”

But on December 17, while out shopping for those very gifts, Megan was tragically killed in a car accident. Her life ended far too soon — yet her love for others never did.

In the days that followed, Megan's best friend, Rachel Cline, and her mother, Cheryl Waterman, decided to carry forward the kindness Megan had shown so effortlessly. They founded Megan’s Fund — a simple promise to continue the work Megan started that Christmas.

A Legacy Continued

What began as a handful of presents for a few local children has grown into a movement of compassion that reaches hundreds of kids across Central Indiana every year. Each December, living rooms and classrooms overflow with toys, books, and warm clothes, all lovingly gathered in Megan’s memory. Volunteers wrap, load, and deliver each gift — knowing that somewhere, a child will wake up to a Christmas morning full of joy and hope.

Megan’s Fund partners with organizations such as the Firefly Children & Family Alliance, United Way of Johnson County, Foster Fairies, and Isaiah 117 House of Marion County to reach families in need — from children in foster care to those facing homelessness or hardship. Every toy purchased, every donation made, is a continuation of Megan’s dream.

Nearly twenty years later, Megan’s kindness still ripples through the community she loved. Megan's Fund was able to provide Christmas gifts to over 400 children in 2024, and our mission is to serve even more children this year!

Megan’s vision continues to inspire acts of kindness and community connection across Central Indiana. Her legacy reminds us that one person’s compassion can spark meaningful change in the lives of many.
